Alpha Weekend Away
Last month, we took our students up into the mountains for our Alpha “Weekend Away”. It was a fantastic time, as we explored the topic of the Holy Spirit. Many of our students continue to explore the meaning of life.
After returning, we concluded our Alpha course a couple of weeks later, and our students returned to their country for the summer. When they come back in September, we will continue to have meetings with them.
Of course, the earthquake was not enough action for one month. About one week ago, the military decided it had seen quiet enough of the political tension that has been happening for the last several months, and decided to take over the government. Yes, we are in the midst of a full-blown military coup. These things happen quite often in Thailand, and it is not quiet as dramatic as it seems. In fact, we are barely affected by in up here in Chiang Rai, but do please pray for the peace of the nation.
I just returned from Bangkok, where I attended a 3 day Alpha training. This was a great time meeting the Alpha Thailand leaders, and discussing with them about what we can do to make Alpha a bit more “Thai” in nature. They have asked me to help develop some materials, which I am very excited to do, and have already begun. I am hopeful this will be a very productive project, and that the materials produced will be multiplied many times over, and used to reach many young Thai people with the Gospel. Please pray for wisdom as I consider aspects of culture, language, and how to weave it into the presentations.
